The incident happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday in the station, in the 100 block of North Michigan Avenue, police said.
Two of the teens were identified as Mack Heard, 17, of the 5000 block of Harvard Lane in Richton Park, and Kendrick L. Towner, 18, of the 5200 block of Deana Lane in Richton Park. The third teen, a 14-year-old boy, was not identified because of his age.
All three were charged with a felony count of committing a hate crime and a misdemeanor count of aggravated assault in a public place, police said.
The teens approached the man and started threatening him and making anti-gay comments, according to police.
It was unclear if they had any physical contact with the victim. The man reported the incident to police, who issued a radio flash message. The teens were walking north in the 600 block of North Michigan when they were arrested, police said.
