Bail was set at $350,000 Tuesday for a 56-year-old Oak Lawn charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault of an elderly patient at an Orland Park health-care facility.
Robert J. Phelan Jr., a certified nursing assistant, allegedly engaged in inappropriate contact with a 93-year-old dementia patient at Lexington Health Care, located at 14601 John Humphrey Drive.
Lt. James Bianchi was unsure when the assault occurred, but said Orland Park Police were called early Sunday July 24 morning. Phelan willingly returned to the station around 4:30 a.m. with investigators, Bianchi said.
The investigation stemmed from a complaint by another employee at the facility and included witness statements and a sexual assault examination at South Suburban Hospital.
Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class X felony, carrying a sentencing range of six to 30 years in prison, if convicted.
Phelan, of the 9200 block of Mayfield Avenue, is scheduled to appear in Cook County court Aug. 8.
