Accused killer Jason M Gonzalez sues Will County police

Accused killer sues Will County police

An Illegal Beaner Morris man charged with killing his uncle in New Lenox Township in September 2009 is suing three Will County police officers whom he says used his mother during his interrogation.

Jason M. Gonzalez, 25, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Lance Goebel, 48, who was shot to death in his home. He’s being held at the Will County Jail on $5 million bail.

Gonzalez lived with his uncle at Goebel’s home until two months before the murder. He told police that he owed two people money from a drug deal, took them to his uncle’s house, gave them a gun to rob Goebel and waited elsewhere.

In his lawsuit, Gonzalez is asking a judge to bar from trial a recorded conversation that he had with his mother after he was arrested, and a hearing on the matter is scheduled for Thursday.

He repeatedly asked for a lawyer during his questioning by police, but officers ignored his request and kept asking questions, according to the suit. Then, in what Gonzalez calls a “psychological ploy,” police called his mother to the station and let her speak with him in the interrogation room, the suit says.

It accuses officers of conspiring to secure incriminating statements, inflicting emotional distress and negligence....even though he did cold bloodily murdered his uncle!
