Big warrant-serving operation in south suburbs- Over 63 police departments involved

Police from multiple jurisdictions were fanning out across the south suburbs this morning in an effort to serve hundreds of arrest warrants.

"Hundreds" of suspects charged in a variety of felonies and misdemeanors are being sought, said Master Sgt. Isaiah Vega, spokesman for the Illinois State Police, one of the lead agencies involved.

Police officers from 63 south suburban communities assembled for a briefing at the Orland Hills Recreation Center at 5 a.m. prior to fanning out.

The operation was expected to last until about 2 p.m.

This marked the first such joint operation in the south suburbs, Vega said.

In addition to local police departments, Illinois State Police, the Illinois Department of Corrections and the Illinois Attorney General's Office of Investigations were taking part.

In addition to serving arrest warrants, the task force officers were to do compliance checks on parolees and convicted sex offenders, Vega said.
