Chicago police officers previously assigned to administrative duties will be hitting the streets as part of a plan to deploy more police to needed areas, officials said today.Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Chicago police Superintendent Garry McCarthy announced today that 92 officers will hit various police beats in the city, Emanuel said in a press release.
Of the officers, 53 have graduated from the Chicago police academy. On July 21, those officers will be deployed to the South Chicago, Gresham, Chicago Lawn, Ogden, Austin and Rogers Park districts, officials said.
In addition to those officers, redeployed officers from administrative positions who include sergeants will be assigned to 13 police districts.
Emanuel previously announced that 500 police officers would be redeployed to police beats.
On June 12, Emanuel also announced the redeployments of 150 officers from administrative positions from every bureau of the department, officials said.
