Burglary call leads to pot bust on South Side

Nobody told this illegal beaner he was living in the black Englewood neighborhood!

A 49-year-old man was arrested this weekend after Chicago police found approximately 200 pounds worth of marijuana plants in his South Side residence, police said today.

Lorenzo Zavala, of the 5600 block of South Paulina Street, was charged with the manufacturing and/or delivery of more than 5,000 grams of cannabis, a felony, police said.

A little after 7 p.m. Saturday, police responded to a burglary in progress at Zavala's home and found marijuana leaves on its back porch. They said they also detected a strong odor of the drug emanating from the home, which had its rear door broken into.

Police found the 200 pounds worth of marijuana plants inside, police said.

They then made contact with Zavala and arrested him.
