MERRILLVILLE, Ind. - Northern Indiana police have arrested a teenage boy in connection with the slaying of an 80-year-old teacher and the theft of her car.
Merrillville police Lt. Jeff Snemis said Friday that the 16-year-old suspect is expected to be charged with murder and auto theft.
Snemis said police believe the teen was involved in a burglary in the Merrillville neighborhood where Anna Schulz lived. Prior to her death Wednesday, police chased the suspect on foot but lost him in the neighborhood.
Snemis said police believe the teen found his way to Schulz's home and attempted to hide there and suspect that he killed the longtime Gary teacher and took her car and other property, ransacking her home.
An autopsy found that Schulz suffered trauma to her neck.
