Thousands honor fallen Chicago officers - 7th annual Ride to Remember

More than a thousand motorcycle riders took time out Sunday to remember fallen Chicago police officers and the families they leave behind.

It was the largest turnout ever for the Ride to Remember, which is in its 7th year.

The event raises money to pay for tuition and school supplies for children of police officers killed in the line of duty.

Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy told the crowd, it takes a special kind of person to be a police officer, and a special kind of family to support them.

Police officers from Cook, Lake, and McHenry counties joined local motorcycle clubs taking part.
