A band that played Lollapalooza is asking for the public’s helping finding equipment stolen from its van and trailer which was taken from a South Loop parking lot Monday morning.The band, Portugal. The Man, sent out a tweet Monday morning saying that its Ford van and trailer, all their equipment, was stolen this morning. The band’s publicist with Atlantic Records, Catharine McNelly, confirmed that the van, along with a trailer and at least 97 pieces of equipment, was stolen between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. Monday from a parking lot at 901 S. Wabash Ave.
The red Ford 350, 15-passenger van, with Alaska license plate FJH244, had a black trailer attached, and was found near 5800 S. Paulina Street, McNelly said.
The van was found yesterday after someone reported a suspicious vehicle in the alley on Paulina and officers responded to find the van and the trailer in an alley, said Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan. The only damage to the van was a pulled ignition, but all of the equipment had been taken from the van, Sullivan said.
The band played at Lollapalooza Sunday evening, the last day the three-day festival took up much of Grant Park.
Among the equipment stolen were eight guitars, an electric organ, an electric piano, numerous musical pedals, drums speakers and microphones, an iPod and a banjo, according to a list of equipment released by the band. A cost estimate for the stolen items wasn’t immediately available, but the band noted the list was incomplete.
In its tweets, the band asked that anyone who could print out the list of equipment and contact them via Twitter via @portugaltheman if anyone knows anything about the theft. Belmont Area detectives were investigating.
