Chicago: At least 2 dead, 6 wounded in overnight shootings
At last two people are dead and six others wounded in separate overnight shootings in the city, police said
The first homicide occurred in an incident in which three people were shot about 1:23 a.m. on the 8800 block of South Princeton Avenue in the West Chatham neighborhood on the South Side. According to preliminary reports from Chicago Police News Affairs, a male who sustained a gunshot wound to his chest was found unresponsive at the scene and was transported to Roseland Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:10 a.m., officials said.
According to the Cook County medical examiner's office, the man was identified as Rick Szewka, 29, of the 4600 block of North Kimball Avenue.
In the same incident, a 37-year-old woman suffered gunshot wounds to both legs and a 33-year-old woman suffered a gunshot wound to one leg, according to police. Both were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where their conditions had stabilized.
The second homicide happened about 3:15 a.m. in the 4800 block of South Laflin Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, according to Chicago Police News Affairs Officer Michael Sullivan. The victim, a 16-year-old male, suffered multiple gunshot wounds, Sullivan said, and was pronounced dead at John H. Stroger Jr., Hospital of Cook County
In other shootings:
A 22-year-old man was found shot in the back late Friday night in the city's Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side, according to police. Officers and paramedics responded about 11:39 p.m. to the 2600 block of North Linder Avenue near the intersection of Wrightwood and Linder avenues and found the man. The victim was transported in serious condition to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said.
A woman was shot in the back about 12:11 a.m. today in the 800 block of West 51st Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side, police said. She was taken in serious condition to Stroger hospital. The victim's age was not available.
Two men were shot about 4 a.m. in the 1900 block of West North Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood on the Near Northwest Side, police said. A 29-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the stomach is in good condition at Stroger, and a 39-year-old with wounds to the head and chest is in good conditin at Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center.
No one is in custody and police are investigating.
