How dare a Chicago store clerk shoot and kill an armed robber! Guns are banned in Chicago....
Suspected robber dead, clerk wounded in liquor store holdup
A suspected robber was shot dead and a store employee seriously wounded Thursday night in an armed robbery at a South Side liquor store in the city's Gresham neighborhood, police said.
Preliminary reports said a male, believed to be one of two armed robbers, was shot dead about 10:03 p.m. at a liquor store on the 1300 block of West 87th Street, according to Police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines.
Police could not say if the robber and clerk exchanged gunfire or if all the shots were fired by one or both robbers.
The store employee was taken in serious-to-critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where detectives were interviewing him, Gaines said. The employee's condition had improved and stablized, he added.
Chicago Fire Department reports said paramedics responded to 1339 W. 87th St., taking a gunshot victim to Christ.
As of 4:30 a.m. police were still looking for the second robber who fled the scene, Gaines said. Calumet Area detectives were investigating.
The Cook County medical examiner's office had no information on the dead man.
