New York City - The pint-sized pervert who gropes women on the East Side has been busted, police sources said Tuesday.Jose Alfredo Perez Hernandez, 18, was nabbed Monday night in Queens after police tracked his cell phone to an apartment there, sources said.
Police got a tip that Hernandez was their man from the superintendent at an Upper East Side building, sources said. The super told a friend who is a cop assigned to the Transit Bureau that he recognized a surveillance photo of the suspect as a man who worked at a cafe in his building. Cops went to the restaurant and learned Hernandez' identity.
The groper is suspected of molesting 12 women over the past seven months, mostly on the Upper East Side. He would sneak up behind his victims and grab their buttocks, crotch or chest.
Police originally released the sketch and surveillance photo accompanying the description of a Hispanic man, 25 to 30 years old, 4-feet-11 to 5-feet-3, 120 to 130 pounds, with spiked hair, closely-cropped on the sides.
Charges were pending against Hernandez as police were contacting the victims for lineups.
