'Totally unprovoked': San Diego cop shot in head at stoplight

POLICE IDENTIFY THE POLICE MURDERER AND RELEASE A PHOTO OF THE OFFENDER

WOW! Another black man murdering a white police officer... Which happens about 92.3% of the time...But never any mention of that in the media... But God forbid if a white police officer has to use force against a black offender.... THEN IT'S NATIONAL NEWS!

SAN DIEGO — A San Diego police officer shot in the head in City Heights is fighting for his life Sunday.

The officer, alone in a patrol car, pulled up alongside a black Audi on University Avenue at 45th Street, when a passenger in the car shot him with a shotgun at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

He was hospitalized in critical condition at Scripps Mercy Hospital, reportedly with a head wound.

Police later shot and killed a suspect they believe was involved in the shooting.

Chief William Lansdowne is scheduled to talk about the shootings Sunday afternoon.

This is the second time a San Diego police officer has been shot while on-duty in the last 12 months. On Oct. 28, San Diego police Officer Chris Wilson, 50, was fatally shot in a probation raid in the Skyline neighborhood in southeast San Diego.

Police said the suspect in the shootings Saturday was believed to be same person who shot someone in the face at an In-N-Out hamburger restaurant in unincorporated El Cajon at North Magnolia and Bradley avenues at about 5:20 p.m. The suspect vehicle was described as a black Audi with paper dealer plates.

That victim, also hit with a shotgun blast, is expected to survive. The San Diego County Sheriffs Department is investigating that shooting.

An El Cajon police officer, unaware of the earlier shooting, spotted the Audi speeding west on Interstate 8 and chased it, but pulled off when speeds exceeded 100 mph.

San Diego police Capt. Jim Collins said that within minutes a possible link was made between the shooting and the chase. Law enforcement personnel around San Diego County were alerted at about 5:30 p.m.

Minutes later, a woman used a police radio to report the San Diego police officer had been shot.

Witnesses described the vehicle from where the shots were fired as a black sedan with paper dealer plates, Collins said.

About 6 p.m., police found a vehicle matching the description outside some apartments on 48th Street near University Avenue, where officers shot and killed a suspect.

Police searched the area for a second suspect, but no immediate arrests were reported. Witnesses said the black Audi contained at least a driver and one passenger.

Collins said officers in a police helicopter flying over the area directed ground units to the 48th Street address as the suspect with a shotgun got into the Audi. Police blocked the street in an attempt to stop the car, but the suspect allegedly grabbed the shotgun and was fired upon by multiple officers, the captain said.

After the shooting, the Audi rolled backward into a wrought iron fence. The man inside was declared dead on the spot. His name has not been made public.
